Lake Shumarinai smelt fishing and soba making experience day trip [departing from Asahikawa]

10 hours

Detailed Information

Experience the majestic natural beauty of Hokkaido on this one‑day bus tour departing from and returning to Asahikawa.
At Lake Shumarinai, one of the world’s premier smelt‑fishing spots, you’ll enjoy ice fishing on the frozen lake surface.

Lake Shumarinai is also known as a sanctuary for anglers, home to the legendary ito—often called the “phantom fish.”
Its exceptionally clear waters create a pristine winter landscape that sets it apart from other smelt‑fishing locations.

During your fishing experience, you will ride a snowmobile deep into the lake area.
There, you’ll encounter a breathtaking panorama of untouched white wilderness—an expansive, silent world with no artificial structures in sight.
This is the pure winter landscape of Hokkaido, preserved in its natural state.

For lunch, we visit Horokanai Town, Japan’s leading buckwheat‑growing region, for an authentic hands‑on soba‑making experience.
Famous throughout Japan, Horokanai produces exceptionally fragrant soba, and you’ll have the rare opportunity to make your own noodles and enjoy them freshly prepared.

This tour is highly recommended for international visitors seeking to experience both Hokkaido’s great outdoors and its culinary culture in a single, unforgettable day.
